How should I care for my saddle pad?
Wash separately, dry on a flat surface.
To keep your saddle pad clean and in good condition, here’s a step-by-step guide for washing it:
Materials Needed
- Mild detergent (avoid bleach or fabric softeners)
- Stiff brush or curry comb
- Washing machine (or large basin for hand washing)
- Space to air-dry
Instructions
1. Remove Excess Hair and Dirt
- Before washing, use a stiff brush or curry comb to remove as much hair, dirt, and debris as possible. This will help prevent clogging your washing machine and give a more thorough clean.
2. Pre-Treat Stains (Optional)
- For particularly dirty or stained areas, apply a small amount of mild detergent or stain remover and gently scrub with a brush.
3. Hand wash:
- The Elegant Eventer recommends gentle hand washing in large basin, using approx. 30 degrees of water, with gentle detergent. Use soft cloth to remove sweat and dirt.
4. Rinse
- Ensure all detergent is removed.
5. Dry the Saddle Pad
- Air Drying (recommended): Lay the saddle pad flat or hang it to dry.
What size brushing boots should I buy?
Please refer to the boot dimension guide.
How should I care for brushing boots?
Brushing boots protect your horse’s legs from impact and friction, so keeping them clean and well-maintained is essential. Here’s how to care for them properly:
Materials Needed
- Mild soap or equine-safe cleaner
- Soft brush or sponge
- Towels
- Bucket of warm water
- Soft cloth or microfiber towel
- Leather conditioner (if boots have leather)
Instructions
1. Remove Dirt and Debris
- After each use, use a soft brush or cloth to wipe off dirt, mud, and hair. This helps prevent buildup that can damage the boots and irritate your horse's skin.
2. Check for Damage
- Inspect the boots for any cracks, loose stitching, or worn areas. Repair or replace boots if you notice significant wear, as damaged boots offer less protection.
3. Deep Cleaning (Weekly or As Needed)
- Leather Brushing Boots: Wipe off dirt with a damp cloth, then apply a leather-safe cleaner. Avoid soaking the leather, as excess water can damage it. After cleaning, use a leather conditioner to keep the leather soft and prevent cracking.
4. Rinse and Dry Thoroughly
- Rinse all soap and cleaners off thoroughly to prevent skin irritation. Towel-dry the boots or air dry them in a well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources, as they can damage materials like leather and neoprene.
5. Velcro Maintenance
- Clean out any debris from Velcro straps with a fine-tooth comb or brush. This keeps the straps strong and maintains their ability to secure the boots firmly.
6. Storage
- Store brushing boots in a cool, dry place. Avoid stacking them while still damp, as this can encourage mildew and odor buildup.
Extra Tips
- Regular Cleaning: Routine cleaning keeps boots from developing odors and extends their life.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: These can weaken materials, especially leather or neoprene.
Leather Care: For leather brushing boots, clean and condition regularly to prevent dryness or cracking.
